Alleviating older people's fears and concerns about young people - European perspectives

In England one of the main focusses of intergenerational work has been on alleviating older people's fears and concerns about young people. What is the situation in other European countries and if different why do you think this might be?

  1. In Spain the situation is somehow different. The main fear of older people has to do with becoming dependent to someone else's help to do basic activities in their daily lives. Secondly, there is a concern around social isolation. Since our society is still very family-centred, older people seem to feel very close to their younger relatives and therefore their perceptions about youth tend to be mostly positive. Actually, when older people are asked, they tend to choose adjectives like happy, healthy and independent to characterize Spanish youth nowadays. No clear concerns about young people seem to arise.
