Homeshare International

Increasing numbers of older people are living alone, and suffering social isolation and increasing levels of low level need. Yet there is room in their home for a second individual. Increasing numbers of younger people are finding it a struggle to pay rent whilst studying or just starting out on their careers.

What do members feel can be done to facilitate these two groups to get together?

And what might be the barriers to intergenerational homesharing?

  1. I wonder if the success of this is also culturally determined. In England young people often go to University to explore freedom and experiment away from their family. It may be amongst more mature students and oversea students that such schemes might be most effective. There are certainly significant numbers of lonely older peope living in their ownhomes who could potentially benefit from such partnerships
