Last month, three Little Brothers’ elders visited three kindergarten classrooms at the Latin School of Chicago, where they shared about their life experiences. An annual event through Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly’s Intergenerational Program, these visits are planned to help young children feel more at ease around older generations and realize there’s not much difference between us, once you look beyond physical appearances. The young students prepared thoughtful questions for the elder volunteers, and after the elders finished sharing, students lined up to shake hands or for a hug.
No matter your age, the benefits of spending time with those from other generations reveals connections and deeper understanding of others and yourself. If you’d like to volunteer with your children or family, sign up for an upcoming orientation together by visiting the website to join.
